JESSICA MAX UNRAVELED: AN INTERVIEW
Jessica Max is a lifestyle photographer who works with couples and families that love adventure and authentic, story based, honestly documented images. We are intensely drawn to her bold and fearless self portraits. She has a unique and artistic way of expressing herself through these portraits-- you can truly feel her heart through them. They are diverse, intense, sexy, and completely badass. The best part? Jessica will be teaching her self portraiture process in the Unraveled school in January-- guiding students through her posing, lighting, locations and how the whole process has benefited her client work.

What inspires your art? I am inspired by music, books (I read a lot), movies, and watching people.
What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens? I shoot with a Canon mk iv and a 35L ii primarily, but also use a 50 and 85 and a Canon 6d as backup.
What other ways do you express your creativity? I draw, paint, but mainly like to focus on projects with my photography when I feel like I am getting stale or wanting a fresh perspective. That, or I draw my kids cartoon fruit and vegetables.
How do you de-stress at the end of the day? Hahahaha I mean…I do try to read in the evening, either for myself, or with kids or sit and watch a show to keep me off of a screen for a little bit and just be present. That and we go to Puerto Rico.
What kind of music do you listen to while editing? I pay for iRadio just so I can listen to the Pure Fuego station because is my fave. That, or an album called Urban Flora by Alina Baraz & Galimatias, anything Halsey or Banks. I honestly have a really strange playlist and it's all over the place.
What is your favorite book? That's impossible to narrow down to one. The Alchemist, milk and honey by rupi kaur, the book "Little Bee" by Chris Cleave has haunted me for years
Name one movie that inspires you. Lady in the Water, and Alice in Wonderland
How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps? Constant personal projects and time away with my family.
What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey? Time management. It's so hard. If you really know me, you know how little I sleep and how much redbull I drink. Haha
Who is one of your favorite photographers? Ray Collins. If you know me, you know also how I feel about water.
