Before we can look forward, it’s important to acknowledge where we’ve been.
The past two years have tested every facet of our existence. We’ve had our feet held to the fire and we’ve all walked away burned to some degree. Over the course of the past two years, we have witnessed creatives walk away from their passion and purpose– and we mourn for their loss. Our creativity is an extension of our who we are as a human being– it is woven into our existence… and these past two years stole that from so many creatives. If that is you– if you are one of those artists walking through life, feeling incomplete, or lost… we want you to know that your artistry never left you. You were forced to shove it down, keep it quiet… but your purpose lives inside of you, and whenever you’re ready, it is too.
2022 is the year of new beginnings. Here at Unraveled, we believe in angel numbers– you know, those numbers you happen to see all the time? We don’t believe those are just coincidences. We believe those numbers are messages being sent to us from something bigger than all of us, and the year 2022’s message is coming in loud and clear. If we take the year 2022 and imagine the zero as just a place holder, we are left with 222… and angel number 222 signifies a new beginning.
We are ready… and we aren’t being cautiously optimistic like the rest of the world. We are taking the leap without looking, because we aren’t willing to lose any more time, or any more pieces of who we are.
We hope you’re ready too.
As the year drew nearer, our priorities became clearer.
At Unraveled Academy, more than anything else, we wanted to be a beacon of light to the photography community… because we need it. And while we know this list is not the answer to all our problems… we believe it’s a step towards the light at the end of a very dark tunnel. We just wanted to cheer as loud as we could, in the best way we knew how, artists who we believe are going to help drive the photography community forward.
Narrowing down this list to 22 artists was no simple task. We are surrounded by some of the most incredible talent and a list of 222 Artists to Watch in 2022 still wouldn’t begin to scratch the surface. This isn’t a complete list by any means– it’s just the beginning. These artists have caught our attention for an infinite amount of reasons– each unique all their own. They have shown growth, they have flexed their creative muscle, they have persevered, they have influenced, they have inspired, but most importantly, they have shown up. In a year filled with self-doubt and second-guessing, we have witnessed these artists soar… and we cannot wait to see what they do in the year to come!
