ABBIE ROSE UNRAVELED: AN INTERVIEW.

Abbie Rose photographs lovers and fighters with their rich souls and stories in Vancouver, BC but she also travels all over the world to do. She thrives when photographing people in love with life and each other --- people growing life and people aching in their journeys. She truly captures souls and she will alway choose the emotional photo over the perfect one which is probably our favorite thing about her. You can check out her incredible work on her website here.

And here she is.....unraveled.

What inspires your art? Light, nature, music, darkness, moods.

What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens? Canon 5d mkIV and Sigma 35mm Art

What other ways do you express your creativity? A few ways. Music - I trained in violin, piano, and voice. I also like drawing, dancing, painting, poetry, and am writing a book!

How do you de-stress at the end of the day? Eating yummy food or fresh juice, going for walks, and/or Netflix! I just started making my own freezies so I eat a good two or three of those a night. I always end the night by lying in bed playing calming music, journaling, and double-checking to make sure no one's hiding in my closet.

What kind of music do you listen to while editing? Really anything. Folk, rock, rap, electronic, indie, classical, country...it depends on what mood I'm in, for sure. My favourite go-to's are Needtobreathe and, lately, the La La Land Soundtrack.

What is your favorite book? The Witch of Blackbird Pond (I've read it half a dozen times) and The Language of Flowers <3 SO GOOD. Read them now. (If you want to)

Name one movie that inspires you. One? This is really hard to answer. I loved 2016's Ben Hur - the cinematography, the actors, the message. I loved Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as well as Dr. Strange for the incredible design and work put into it. And of course I love Les Miserables. I am definitely more of a TV show girl though, because I hate if a movie doesn't end the way or when I want it to. I've been playing a lot with 16x9 cropping with my photos and giving them an indie film/tv show cinematic feel.

How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps? I call it a night. Go do something else. Or wallow for a little bit and then look at work I've done that I love. Shoot something new. Practice good self-talk and listen to people in my life who support me and my work. Eat food. Right now I'm in a bit of a slump, but I know it's because I just got home from my long trip and I'm in re-set mode! So just knowing it's temporary helps. <3 Also forcing myself to get work done is important and keeps me from getting overwhelmed (which only makes the slump worse).

What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey? Growing into who I am as an artist has probably been the hardest part. Realizing what I DON'T want to be shooting. Realizing that making art can take a lot out of you. Trying to make that sustainable. Learning to shoot for myself sometimes and take breaks when I get burnt out/exhausted!

Who is your favorite photographer? Uggggh why do you make me narrow things down so much! I am probably the most indecisive interview you've had yet. Haha. I am LOVING Rafal Bojar's work right now. He's an incredible artist and wonderful friend. There are a few other splendid photographers I have notifications turned on for on Instagram. <3
