ANITA CLINE UNRAVELED: AN INTERVIEW
Anita of My Three Sons Images, is a natural light photographer who lives in Georgia with her husband Shaun. They have three sons and two little grandchildren, who are her favorite muses. She has a passion for freelensing and finds beauty in the art of imperfection. She strives to create dreamy images that are filled with beautiful light and connection. When she isn't creating, she's most likely to be found with a book in hand. She loves all genres and has a professed love for books with beautiful covers!
AND-- the best part???
Anita will be teaching a mini lecture in OUR SCHOOL which will go live next week! She will be showing us exactly how she freelenses in a video and will also be teaching on her techniques and inspiration. If you have ever been intrigued by freelensing but can't quite wrap your head around the concept or you just want to learn more -- this mini lecture is a MUST. You can join our school for only $10.00 a month or $100.00 for the year here. By doing so, you will also get access to all courses, lectures and editing videos as they become available!
And now...here she is: Anita Cline, Unraveled.....
What inspires your art? I think, like so many, I am first and foremost inspired by my family and the need to document them. As photographers, we become the memory keepers for the people we love. It's something that I can give them that will last a lifetime. In my daily life, I'm not a rule breaker...but in my photography, I am inspired by going outside the lines and creating something where the rules no longer apply.
What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens? I shoot with a Canon 6D. My favorite lens to shoot with, by far, is my 35L. I love to freelens with this lens and I love the wider angle.
What other ways do you express your creativity? I love to write. I'm inspired by EE Cummings and will use his quotes often in my photography for inspiration but also for writing. I really love to color too!
How do you de-stress at the end of the day? I love to read! I have a huge collection of books & I may have a slight addiction to "pretty covers"!
What kind of music do you listen to while editing? I love country music, so my Pandora station is always set to either Jake Owen radio or Thomas Rhett radio.
What is your favorite book? I have so many favorites! I'm in a book club and I have read so many different genres of books. My favorite young adult book would be "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak, Fiction...I could name so many! The Secret Life of Bees, Me Before You, The Storyteller, Rare Objects...the list goes on and on. Non Fiction, I would have to say that of late, my favorite is Hold Still by Sally Mann.
Name one movie that inspires you. I am not a big movie person. I would read before I would watch a movie. So I don't know that I have a movie that I would necessarily draw inspiration from.
How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps? I really try hard to keep shooting through these times. I have a personal freelensing project that I do on a monthly basis with Kelly Akers. It's been so helpful. Not only does it hold me accountable (because there is someone else depending on me to shoot) but it also gives me someone to bounce creative ideas off of. We can also talk each other through the times of self doubt and lack of inspiration.
What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey? Knowing (and trusting!) that my vision and the photography journey I'm on is my OWN. I know my art isn't for everyone. It's completely out of the box and un-technical. I have long had a passion for images that are flawed. That's what makes my heart skip a beat and where my creative heart lies. So I'm ok with being true to that..but it took me awhile to get there.
Who is one of your favorite photographers? Sally Mann. She is a great example for me of a photographer who does things her own way without the worry of what others are going to think of her art. It's hers..she owns it and I love her attitude. Her black and whites are just amazing and her flawed images...oh my goodness, you know I love those!
