Here is Brittany, Unraveled…

What inspired your art?

I started photography in high school. I remember getting a small Canon digital camera from my mother one year. I photographed anything and everything. After submitting some work for a school competition and getting recognition, I realized this is what I wanted to do. I dreamt of being a photojournalist and even did a photography expedition to France with National Geographic at 19. It was THE coolest thing I’ve ever done for myself.

What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?

I shoot photography with my Canon Mark IV and films with my Canon C100. My two favorites lenses are my Canon 35mm 1.4 and the Canon 24-70 2.8

What other ways do you express your creativity?

I love creating films. My photography business is too busy for me to step away completely, but some days I dream about making Nike commercials...haha! I also love any crafts. My kids love it too, so we are always breaking out the clay, paints, and anything we can hot glue.

How do you de-stress at the end of the day?

Good question. I don’t think I really have time to ever de-stress. Some days my favorite thing to do after working is to snuggle up with my husband on the couch and watch our favorite shows.

What kind of music do you listen to while editing?

Since I do films, I often listen to different songs on Music Bed to save for future projects. If not, I listen to country music on Spotify. Randy Rogers, Josh Abbott, Eli Young Band are a few of my favorites. I also love classic rock and any 90’s music!

What is your favorite book?

Water for Elephants. It’s sooo good. If you haven’t read it, go get it.

Name one movie that inspires you.

I am always inspired by any movie I watch. I am constantly watching how they are filming and color grading. I’m probably really annoying to watch a movie with now that I’m constantly critiquing things - haha!

How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?

Trying something new. Sounds cliche - but it works. Sometimes I’ll try something I’ve always wanted to do but have been afraid of rejection. I currently am working on a set of films that I cannot wait to release. Every time I’m in a creative slump, I start jotting ideas down for a new one.

What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?

Comparing myself to others. We all do it, but man I can really beat myself up.

Who is one of your favorite photographers?

I recently discovered Maxim Vakhovskiy. HOLY CRAP. Phenomenal work. I want to do portrait work like that when I grow up.
