We had so many submissions to kick off 2026 from the members of Unraveled Academy, and truly — there is nothing we love more. Each week is an opportunity to share your work and be considered for Unraveled Academy’s Artist of the Year, and this community showed up in a big way.
We’re starting the year by honoring our very first Artist of the Year, Alexis Peterson, with this striking image. And yes, it happens to be the Year of the Horse — but make no mistake, that is not why this image was chosen.
This photograph is quiet, powerful, and intentional. The way the light traces the curve of the neck. The softness of the mane against the dark background. The restraint in the framing. It feels reverent. Timeless. Confident without needing to ask for attention. This is an image that trusts the viewer to slow down and feel something — and that trust is the foundation of great art.
