And Here is Sarah Cornish, Unraveled…
What inspires your art?
Goodness, this is such a profound question. There are so many things that inspire me. I think what it all circles back to however, is intention and emotion. The way I feel about what I am photographing, and the stories I can tell ultimately take priority. I am a memory hoarder so any means to satisfy that makes me happy. I am deathly afraid of forgetting all those beautiful little things that define any given moment in my life right now. Photography provides an important means of remembering.
What do you shoot with?
I am Canon gal! I shoot with a Canon 5d Mark IV and my most favorite lens right now is probably my 35L II. I just love that I can keep connection with whoever I am shooting at. It provides a very intimate perspective.
What other ways do you express your creativity?
I love so much to read so writing is something that I am crazy about. I hope to refine this little by little and hopefully find a way to do this more regularly.
How do you destress at the end of the day?
Books and Tea. Or netflix. Or Yahtzee on my phone.
What kind of music do you listen to while editing?
I bounce all over the place with this. I find I am most productive when I listen to Podcasts so I dig into those a lot. I love anything indie, folksy or inspirational too though. Lauren Daigle is my jam.
What is your favorite book?
I love the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. I have read this series three times now and always go back. I am crazy about most historical fiction though. I also love a good self help book. Brene’ Brown is always at the top of the pile.
Name one movie that inspires you?
I don’t know why this is so hard for me. I tend to binge a lot of TV series versus full on movies. My Sister’s keeper was definitely one of the recent movies I watched though that really struck a chord.
How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?
I shoot for me. It’s typically my kids but we just drive around and find pockets or light or places that I have never shot before. And honestly sometimes I just put it away for a little while and find other mediums that inspire me, such as a good book.
What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?
Finding Balance. I don’t believe it exists, but sometimes I worry that I am just not enough for it all because I am the type of person that needs to give all of me in all things.
Who is one of your favorite photographers?
There are so many that I love and admire but the first person that came to mind was Vivian Maier. I love that she was relentless and so innately creative. She had the kind of creative brilliance that would have propelled her to fame, but she did it for the love of her work.
