The Muse: Bailey Miller, by The Unraveled Academy
muse (noun) a person or personified force who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist
The Muse is our way of bringing inspiration to the creative world. Seeing a photographer for just one picture is not the whole picture… so we are bringing you more, to give you a deeper look into the artists who inspire us and we call, muses.
Bailey Miller of Grand Adventure Photography is sharing her incredible work with us as our newest MUSE. Her vision is ethereal and deeply romantic — the kind of imagery that feels like stepping into a dream. Not only is her editing beautiful, but she also uses composites in Lightroom to craft her signature cinematic style. Every frame feels intentional, imaginative, and filled with story.
What was your “muse” or inspiration for this shoot?
This session was spontaneous and planned all at the same time. While I had planned to try some portraits while up in Marquette for a wedding, I wasn’t expecting to do these photos specifically. My best friend found an antique wedding dress for me and brought it along. As soon as I saw the lighthouse online I had the idea to do a self portrait walking into the sea falling off the rocks. Thankfully, Bre, was kind enough to help me capture these self portraits in the absolute freezing cold while we were splashed from both sides. (We also realized you could completely see my underwear hahaha)
What gear did you use for this shoot?
Canon eos r and sigma 35mm 1.4art
How were these images edited?
I used my artisanal preset pack to edit these images in Lightroom Classic! I also created a composite image in photoshop to achieve the “falling” image
Do you have any advise for other photographers?
Find what makes you happy and pursue it. Don’t fall to worrying only about what is popular, or what will get “likes”- if you follow what makes your heart glow, you’ll find your art and draw out your true artist. Don’t be afraid to be different and maybe a little weird
