What was your “muse” or inspiration for this shoot?
This Family, they were my inspiration. I first started photographing the Mackie’s 5 years ago and have had the privilege of capturing changing chapters as they grown. The session was really a collaboration between trusting clients and the comfort I have in creating moments for them. It was a flow between brief moments of calm and chaos. Each family member took the lead at different points of the session allowing the chance to document moments that felt like true representation of their character. This was the first time and last time I would be photographing the family within this particular home, and we were limited to the living room and kitchen areas so I was mindful to utilize the space and personal aspects available. I always go in with a plan and an idea of how I would like to run the session, and then it’s a matter of meshing those prior ideas with what is occurring in real time. I always want to highlight joy and connection while acknowledging the unique family dynamics. I love the magic that naturally occurs in the whirlwind of it all.
