What inspires your art?
Nature, especially water, inspires me. I feel my best when I am outside and there is something truly magical about outdoor sessions in the wild. People inspire me. I love helping a person tell their story and I am always so honored that a client chose me.
What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?
I have a Nikon Z6ii and a my favorite lens is my 55 mm Nikor lens.
What other ways do you express your creativity?
I have three very creative children who love to express their creativity. My son has a very vivid imagination and has begun to show interest in writing stories, so I tell stories with him. One of my daughters loves to draw so I draw with her. My youngest daughter loves to sing so we sing together. They inspire my creativity and are my forever muses.
How do you de-stress at the end of the day?
Honestly I am so tired by the end of the day that as soon as my kids go to sleep, I go to sleep too.
What kind of music do you listen to while editing?
I tend to listen to podcasts while I’m editing. I listen to everything from true crime to photography to self help depending on how I am feeling.
What is your favorite book?
I just finished reading Atomic Habits and I really enjoyed that.
Name one movie that inspires you.
Not exactly inspiring but my favorite movie of all time is Tombstone.
How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?
Self doubt is something that I deal with on a daily basis and I’m not sure that it will ever completely go away. It is something that I work on daily by attempting to speak myself with kindness. I am always jotting down ideas that I have for photoshoots. When am in a creative slump I like to go out and shoot some of my ideas that I’ve previously written down. I am very lucky that I have super supportive friends that love to model for some of my crazy ideas.
What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?
I am very very new to photography and I tend to always be in my own way. Overcoming myself and my imposter syndrome has been challenging for me. I was so scared to put myself out there and to post my images for other people to see. Luckily, I had very supportive friends and family that encouraged me along my journey. If it wasn’t for their support, I’m not sure I would have ever really pursued this path and that would have been so unfortunate.
What is your favorite pizza topping?
Garlic, all of the garlic.
What is your most favorite kind of light and why?
I absolutely love to shoot in low light because of the depth and shadows. My photos tend to be more on the “moody” side and I think that shooting in low light helps me achieve that. Blue hour is my favorite for outdoor sessions, that time of day is so special.
Who is one of your favorite photographers?
I think that Kade Bailey is absolutely amazing. Her photographs are so beautiful and her color palette is so soothing. I also love that she celebrates women and is so supportive of other photographers.
What is your favorite course or lesson at Unraveled?
I love that Unraveled has a creative project for each month. I so look forward to those and love seeing everyone’s interpretation of the subject. I have so much to learn and those creative projects teach me so much.
