Here is Amanda, Unraveled…

What inspires your art?

Things that inspire me are random sometimes, but I've drawn inspiration from colors, textures, movies, hair, music, different decades inspire me randomly... But I'm big on looking at what's in front of me and seeing what draws my attention and what I can make with what I have.

What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?

I shoot with a Canon R6! My favorite lens and true love is my 35mm. When I feel like something different I love using my beat up 45mm tilt shift that I found on eBay for cheap.

What other ways do you express your creativity?

I used to express myself so many ways, with painting, cooking/baking and creative writing but not so much anymore... I just don't make time for it.

How do you de-stress at the end of the day?

I love playing video games and having snuggled up movie nights.

What kind of music do you listen to while editing?

I'm all over the board with music. One day I'm blasting classic rock, next it's 90's hip hop, then it's Alternative... but music is big for me. Some of my very favorites to listen to are Glass Animals, Sylvan Esso, Dirty Heads and David Bowie.

What is your favorite book?

I wish I read more. The only reading I do is at bedtime with my daughter, Nora. Together we love reading Shel Silverstein.

Name one movie that inspires you.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?

I put my camera on the shelf and put my phone down and spend time with the people in front of me. I feel like self-doubt and creative slumps are fed by an overload of social media so I take regular breaks from it.

What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?

I have always doubted and second guessed everything I did. I still do sometimes. I just needed to get out of my own way.

What is your favorite pizza topping?

My new favorite thing to put on pizza is Mike's Hot Honey!

What is your most favorite kind of light and why?

Of course I love back light, I get excited when I find the perfect rim light and not just at golden hour. I try and find it with backlight from a window and playing with the shadows. I also really enjoy side light which I use a lot in my work.

Who is one of your favorite photographers?

I have always had a deep deep love for Anna Harris' work and Mari Trancoso has rocked my world lately.

What is your favorite course or lesson at Unraveled?

I can't pick one and I'm sorry, kind of, for listing so many... I have loved both In the Frame's with Jessica Rasmussen, Boudy Positive with Teri Hofford + Natural Posing for Couples with Anna Harris.
