She began her photography journey in order to document her own children and you can truly feel her passion to do so in every image. The portraits of her children are FULL— of color, personality, joy and zest for life! Each image oozes with love and gratefulness. Anna is both an Unraveled Expert Artist and now an Instructor in the Academy. We are always bringing UEA’s on to teach because we believe it makes our community tight knit and strong.

Here is Anna, Unraveled…

WHAT INSPIRED YOUR ART? 

My two kids, it all started with them and having a need to capture their childhood and all the memories we create! But more recently it's the light I see around us. I've become hooked on experimenting with different light and finding new ways to play with it. When I see it streaming through the blinds as the sun is rising over the mountains around us or the last light of the day that leaves a triangle of glowy light slowly rising up and over our backyard hedges. It can be pure magic and makes me want to create in it.

WHAT DO YOU SHOOT WITH? CAMERA BODY AND FAVORITE LENS? 

I shoot with a Canon 6D and a 35mm Sigma Art lens, which almost never leaves my camera body. I on occasion will shoot with my 24-105mm when I want the 24mm focal length for capturing more of the outdoor world around us when we are exploring.

WHAT OTHER WAYS DO YOU EXPRESS YOUR CREATIVITY? 

I love to bake! I am obsessed with macarons, the whole process of creating them is another art form for me. I can never get enough of all the different flavour possibilities there is to create.

HOW DO YOU DE-STRESS AT THE END OF THE DAY? 

I like to play World of Warcraft, edit photos or just sit and mindlessly browse the internet while I binge watch Netflix shows. And working out in the evenings is a good de-stress tool too.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO WHILE EDITING? 

Instead of music I will put on a show and just listen to what's going on while I edit. I just like having background noise going, for some reason it keeps me focused.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK? 

I don't have a favourite book because honestly, I am not a big reading type of person. It takes me forever to get through any reading material, I think I read the same lines over and over because my mind tends to be all over the place and I can't concentrate on what I'm reading about.

NAME ONE MOVIE THAT INSPIRES YOU. 

Hmm, not sure if I have one that truly inspires me, but I do love all the colours and pace of pretty much any Marvel Universe movie, I'm a sucker for some good action packed fictional fun.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR CREATIVE JOURNEY? 

Getting over the act of comparing my style of shooting and creating to every artist I would come across in my IG and FB feeds. Once I got over that hurdle of comparison and learned to just take in and enjoy other's art, I finally figured out my own style and what I loved in my own images.

WHO IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHERS? 

That would have to be Sarah Cornish of My Four Hens Photography. I love her work, it's so beautiful, but also the way she writes. Her words and stories attached to her images are always so beautifully written.
