Annie is a lifestyle family and newborn photographer located in Owatonna Minnesota. As a mom to 4 girls ages 6 and under, when she is not busy with photography, she enjoys painting, drawing and doing home decorating projects with her littles. Her husband, John, has passed his love of music down to their children, and many evenings in the Nelson household are spent having "music parties" in the living room.

Annie has an incredible eye for detail, seems to perfect those beautiful, creamy skin tones in every image and always finds a way to capture the moments and emotions that truly matter during a session.

Here is Annie, Unraveled…

What inspires your art? 

My kids. They are my original muses and I never would have picked up a DLSR if not for them. Also, pretty light, cool locations, beautiful photographs.

What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens? 

Canon EOS R and Sigma art 24.

What other ways do you express your creativity?

Decorating my home. I love the architecture of old houses and ours (built in 1914) really inspires me.

How do you de-stress at the end of the day? 

Drinking a beer and watching TV with my husband.

What kind of music do you listen to while editing? 

Acoustic covers.

What is your favorite book? 

Hmm, good question. I would say the last really good book I read was "Where the Crawdads Sing", but I'm not sure of my favorite book ever.

Name one movie that inspires you. 

Corny as it might sound, I've always been obsessed with the movie Beaches. It always inspires me to feel deeper and love harder and reminds me to show up when I'm needed, cause time is fleeting.

How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps? 

It depends. Sometimes I force myself to keep creating through it, sometimes I stop creating for a while until I feel like picking up my camera again. But the urge always comes back eventually. I don't think there is one right way to handle it. Seasons come and go, as does inspiration.

What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?

Comparison! Don't do it! It is all well and fine to be inspired by other artist's work (I certainly am!) but comparing your rate of growth, # of likes, editing styles, etc. will kill your joy of creating.

What is your most favorite kind of light and why?

Glowy evening light. It is just the most flattering and magical light.

Who is one of your favorite photographers? 

Lauren Phillips from Love Her Wild photography. I'm so inspired by her work.
