Here is Charlotte, Unraveled…

What inspires your art?

My family - My two girls (Blaire and Brooke) and my husband Steve. I also live in the West Kootenays with mountains, lakes and rivers everywhere which is super inspiring.

What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?

Canon 5d IV and 35mm Sigma art are my go tos!

What other ways do you express your creativity?

I loooove family films. I like making them for my own family and for others.

How do you de-stress at the end of the day?

Right now - I work at the end of the day most days. My oldest daughter just started kindergarten and my youngest is at home with me during the day so my work day starts when they go to bed!

What kind of music do you listen to while editing?

I love Indie music but I also love me some good pop music like Taylor Swift. I should also shout out Ace Fanning for Beyond the Secret - It's my favourite podcast and I've definitely listened to them while editing.

What is your favorite book?

I need to read more, but all of the Harry Potter books have my heart.

Name one movie that inspires you.

Moulin Rouge - I grew up singing and I just love the music, sets and costumes.

How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?

I'm lucky enough to live in an area where there are some pretty amazing photographers and we all lift each other up. I try to take any self doubt I get from looking at their images as fuel for myself to do better next time and to push myself. I find when I'm in a creative slump its because of burnout and I've learned over the last couple of years that I need a break and it's ok to say no.

What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?

Time - I sometimes wish I had the time in the day people do with a regular job, but then I try to remind myself of my original inspiration and that was my girls. I started my business so I could still work but stay at home with them.

What is your favorite pizza topping?

Pepperoni for life

What is your most favorite kind of light and why?

I aim to shoot at golden hour. I tend to backlight but I've been trying to change that up a bit. I also love indoor window light.

Who is one of your favorite photographers?

I have to pick just one? Stormy Solis has got to be up there.

What is your favorite course or lesson at Unraveled?

Shooting in Full Sun with Ace Fanning - I took so much from this.
