Located in Cleveland, Chelsey Hill is our latest Unraveled Expert Artist. Chelsey’s specialty is in newborn and family photography. Her more “posed” studio newborn work is welcomed and cherished here as it is not abundant amongst our community. So, we love that she wanted to join us. We adore having a community of photographers that all bring something different to the table, Chelsey being one of them. Her work is both unique and lovely; not only does she capture genuine connections, but her artistic style stands out as being soft, organic and calming. Welcome home Chelsey.

Here is Chelsey, Unraveled…
What inspired your art?
Motherhood. I admit, before becoming a mother, I had little interest in children or babies. I never felt that yearn to hold them…until I became a mother. That maternal switch turned on the day I had my first daughter and it’s that undeniable bond between mother and child that has shaped my photography.
What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?
Canon 5D Mark ii, Canon 35mm 1.4L, Canon 135mm 1.8
What other ways do you express your creativity?
I’ve always been artistic, dabbling in many different mediums. Before I pursued photography, I was operating an Etsy business, selling hand painted dish & glassware. Unfortunately, since becoming a mother, I don’t create as much as I would like to.
How do you de-stress at the end of the day?
Getting lost in a good book or playing the ukulele.
What kind of music do you listen to while editing?
I love anything folk or Indie- Daughter, Lumineers, Matthew Santos
What is your favorite book?
There are so many…I have a love affair for books. I’d say my favorites are probably Never Broken by Jewel and Educated. Both are incredibly inspiring stories centered around hardships and resilience.
Name one movie that inspires you.
Into the Wild
What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?
That delicate balance of providing yourself constructive criticism without being so hard on yourself that it halts creativity and feeds self-doubt. It can be an exhausting process.
Who is one of your favorite photographers?
There are so many! Ben Sasso, Meg Loeks & Tyla Jones are a few of my favorites.
