Here is Courtney, Unraveled…

What inspires your art?

Motherhood, light & connection always really inspire me. I’m also inspired by landscapes, clothing, minimalism and the beauty within the chaos.

What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?

Canon Mark IV with canon 35mm always attached. And recently started using an r5 with 28-70mm for video.

What other ways do you express your creativity?

Website design! I love working on a website and wish I had more time for it. I took a year of basic coding and UX/UI design and love getting lost it. I also love to bake.

How do you de-stress at the end of the day?

I’ll read or find something on Netflix.

What kind of music do you listen to while editing?

I go back and forth between music and podcasts while I’m editing. Recently been listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fleetwood Mac & SYML or I always love a true crime podcast.

What is your favorite book?

A recent read I couldn’t put down was Anthony Kiedes autobiography Scar Tissue.

Name one movie that inspires you.

Any movie by Quentin Tarantino - he’s unlike anyone else and so inspiring. I recently watched Once Upon a Time in Hollywood before a recent session for inspiration.

How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?

I usually take time off of social and get into nature. Nature always clears my head and leaves me feeling better. To get out of creative slumps, I try to slow down with my client work and block off time to shoot for myself.

What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?

Trying to find balance in it all and be the kind of mom I want to be. It’s a juggle. I also struggle with shooting a session & going through the motions to get the safe shots—working on pushing through that this year and taking more risks.

What is your favorite pizza topping?

All the veggies! But it’s gotta be from a fancy local place where the veggies are fresh. Otherwise just cheese.

What is your most favorite kind of light and why?

Golden hour back lit glow & I really love blue hour.

Who is one of your favorite photographers?

I’m always inspired by InFrames Photography, Kaley From Kansas and soooo many more!

What is your favorite course or lesson at Unraveled?

Entangled Love Stories with Mari Trancoso- blown away by her and her creative techniques. I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone & found this course to be so helpful!
