Congratulations to Jessica Sheridan on becoming our latest Unraveled Expert Artist. To learn more about becoming a UEA and leader in this community, see HERE.

Jessica is a native to the midwest and loves everything about it! The open fields, the wildflowers + the people! She focuses on families- how they start, how they grow and where they go. She shoots a limited amount of kick ass weddings each year and primarily focuses on families + newborns! She has been married to her amazingly supportive husband for nearly 11 years and is mom to two crazy toddler boys! She is also a plant mom to more than 100 houseplants and owns The Daisy Lady which is a business focused on educating people about their plants. She loves to DIY things around her 100 year old house, play in the garden, enjoy craft brews on the patio + soak in sunlight!

Jessica’s work is mysterious and entrancing with dark shadows and deep tones. She has this way of creating faceless portraits that make you want to know more while also finding the most naturally joyful moments to capture. When looking at her work, you will spend time trying to understand the stories and personalities she documents. You will long for more…but in the best way.

Here is Jessica, Unraveled…

What inspires your art?

The people I'm working with. The way they look at each other and hold each other. They way little boys play in dirt and the way little girls twirl in the sunlight. And SUNLIGHT! I love chasing the light at the end of the day with my clients and getting the best golden colors for my clients!

What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?

I shoot with a Canon 5D mkiv and literally never take my Canon 35mm f/1.4 off!

What other ways do you express your creativity?

I love creating aesthetically pleasing areas in my house! I love making it cozy but beautiful + incorporating plants into that is a huge part of what fills me <3

How do you de-stress at the end of the day?

I'm an enneagram 5w4 so I definitely need my alone time at the end of the day. My husband usually takes our kiddos for a walk when he gets home from work so I get some quiet around the house! I also play in the dirt any chance I get!

What kind of music do you listen to while editing?

My favorite band is Minus the Bear but when I'm editing, I'm all about true crime podcasts! My favs are 'Cults' + 'Serial Killers' from the Parcast Network. Lately I've also really loved Clubhouse!

What is your favorite book?

Ugh. I really don't read much. The books I do love are plant related and have tons of info about plant care!

Name one movie that inspires you.

I don't watch a ton of movies but I do love the show New Girl- it keeps me on my toes and ready for anything that comes my way!

How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?

Not well? Does any creative handle those slumps well? Honestly, you just have to get through it. I always remember that 'this too shall pass' and then double down on what I'm working on to find a new way to love what I'm working on.

What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?

Having kids. My kids are 21 months apart so for the better part of 4 years I was pregnant, nursing or caring for a newborn. They obviously take priority over anything else so when I spent that time focusing on my kiddos, my art took the back seat. I also struggled with PPD quite a bit so finding my creativity again was a bit of a journey. It took time and support from my husband to keep pushing me in the right direction!

What is your favorite pizza topping?

There is a local pizza place called Lopiez and they have the most amazing garlic sauce and cheese combo and omg it's the besttttttt.

What is your most favorite kind of light and why?

The last 15 minutes of golden hour, clients back lit and doused in that golden glow.

Who is one of your favorite photographers?

I'm always inspired by Jesse Salter, Mari Trancoso, Melissa Cervantes and most recently all the up and coming newbie photogs that I've met via Clubhouse and my mentoring program!

What is your favorite course or lesson at Unraveled?

I loved Ace's newborn for non-newborn photographers course! So many great tips!!
