Congratulations to the ever-lovely Jocelyn Collins on becoming our latest Unraveled Expert Artist! We are so thrilled to welcome her to the blog today and we look forward to watching her grow in this community!
Jocelyn Collins is a Lifestyle Family + Motherhood Photographer and film-maker located in the AZ desert. Jocelyn lives in the desert, but her heart belongs among the pine trees and she never minds traveling for work... she'll likely drag her family along too. Jocelyn is a mother to 3 beautiful children and wife to her best friend. In her spare time, you can find her working as a nurse and spending as much time as possible outdoors with her family.
Jocelynβs work is full of affection, mood and contrast. She captures everyday beauty and turns it into art. Her eye for details is impeccable and we love how she allows life to unfold naturally in front of her camera. Nothing is forced and every moment is cherished.

Here is Jocelyn, Unraveledβ¦
What inspires your art?
First and foremost, my children. I am very much inspired the speed of life in this stage we are in, and my desire to be present, to slow it down and to do my best to savor all of it... even the tough stuff, because I know someday, I'll look back on this season and miss it dearly. I am also always inspired by genuine emotions (good, bad or otherwise) and of course pretty light.
What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?
I have two Nikon D750 bodies, and my Sigma 35 1.4, which is 90% of the time, what I'm using. I just got the 24 too, which I'm loving, but 35 is still my fave. I also have an old vintage Nikkor 50mm, that I use to free lens. My hubby surprised me with the Mavic Air 2 for Christmas too, which I'm still getting the hang of.
What other ways do you express your creativity?
I recently found that I love watercolor painting (although I wish I could do it more, but finding the time is challenging... someday!), listening to music, cooking and gardening. I'm pretty much an old lady.
How do you de-stress at the end of the day?
An ice cold delicious IPA or stout, depending on the time of year. Also, oils, reading and snuggles with my babies. If I had a bathtub, I'd use that too... #goals.
What kind of music do you listen to while editing?
I love a wide variety of music, but lately, my go-to has been mellow folk or I have some stupid show on tv that I'm barely paying attention to.
What is your favorite book?
To Kill A Mockingbird
Name one movie that inspires you.
I'm not the biggest movie person, to be honest, but I'm obsessed with This Is Us... everything about it is brilliant and it totally inspires me in so many ways.
How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?
Terribly. ha. I usually force myself to document my kids more, although usually, it's just time passing and talking to fellow creatives who can relate, that pulls me out of my funk.
What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?
Self doubt. I really struggle with the comparison game and concerning myself entirely too much with what others think of me. I also struggle working as a nurse and trying to balance this, that and motherhood. I rarely feel like I can give everything my all, which makes me crazy.
What is your favorite pizza topping?
Very, very thin sliced mushroom (and if they're not thin sliced, I skip them), black olives, and pineapple. yum.
What is your most favorite kind of light and why?
Did I mention I'm indecisive? Can I pick two? the last few minutes at sunset and blue hour... I love the way the sunset backlighting wraps around what I'm photographing, but I love when I can turn my subjects around just after the sun sets and I have a new perspective... I usually get re-inspired for a few minutes which always makes me feel good and helps me to finish up on a good note.
Who is one of your favorite photographers?
Oh gosh so many. again, I'm indecisive, but knowing people personally has such a pull on me and I really really love April Christopher... I love the way she documents her children, and she photographed my family in 2019 and they are my most favorite ever. Lately, though, I'm obsessed with Maggie Rechkemmer and Lauren Wright's work.
What is your favorite course or lesson at Unraveled?
Can I say the Onward Retreat?? I got so damn much out of it... and I'm not even done with it yet. One of my other favorites was Seeing Your Home in a New Light with Karen Dell.
