WHAT INSPIRES YOUR ART?
Emotion & memories. I use to pull out all my grandparent's photo albums and loved looking at all the photos from a time before I even existed. It was kind of magical to me. To be able to see how the houses looked & the outfits my mom and grandparents wore. I loved photos of my childhood too. I just loved all of it! Now I take images kind of obsessively trying to freeze time with my own family. I just feel these baby years with my kids slipping by so fast. When I do any client sessions I'm always focused on emotion & connection.
WHAT DO YOU SHOOT WITH? CAMERA BODY AND FAVORITE LENS?
Nikon D750. I mostly use 35 mm and 85mm prime lenses.
WHAT OTHER WAYS DO YOU EXPRESS YOUR CREATIVITY?
I'm also an oil painter. I actually went to college for painting, but ended up graduating with a double major in painting & photography because I fell in love with photography. Painting has always been a strong creative outlet for me. It's nice to be able to bounce between the two mediums and allow them to inspire each other. Aside from that I love dance parties with my kiddos and I'm kind of great at jazzing up pancake batter.
HOW DO YOU DE-STRESS AT THE END OF THE DAY?
When I actually have the time to chill in the evenings I love getting cozy on the couch with a glass of wine, my husbands company, and either an intense show or stand up comedy.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO WHILE EDITING?
I listen to a lot of different music! I would say I stick to more of the indie/ folk genre the most though.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?
I enjoy books like Daring Greatly by Brene Brown or Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert.
NAME ONE MOVIE THAT INSPIRES YOU.
Anything Wes Anderson. Every scene is a perfect composition. It blows my mind!
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR CREATIVE JOURNEY?
In the beginning it was money. Trying to upgrade gear and software, etc. when you are fresh out of school and scraping to get by is really hard. Now I would say it's finding time. I'm a stay at home/ work from home mom with a husband in the military. I do as much as I can and take on as much as I can, but there are only so many hours in the day. I often end up taking on as much client work as possible and never get around to my own personal ideas and projects.
WHO IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHERS?
I've always loved Sally Mann. Her ability to take such emotive & in the moment photos with a large format film camera is amazing!
