Unraveled Expert Artist Interview | Savita Sittler UEA
Savita Sittler is a senior and lifestyle photographer based out of State College, PA. She is a German born middle child to a Brazilian mother and Austrian father and has lived all over Europe, Brazil and the States. She now lives in a small Pennsylvania town with her mountain man husband, two fiery red headed boys, and lazy Great Dane. Her love of photography started with film and developing in the darkroom and after deciding that her pursuit of a life as a Chef wasn't for her anymore, she started her own business as a photographer. She strives to empower people through her medium and hopes to one day find herself as the lead photographer on a fashion editorial campaign.
We are so proud to welcome her to the blog today as one of our latest Unraveled Expert Artists and we look forward to watching her grow and become an instructor and leader in the Academy. Savitaβs heart is as big as her talent and we have no doubt that she will make a big impact in the photography industry and this community.

Here is Savita, Unraveledβ¦
What inspires your art?
Colors and the Human Body.
I am inspired by the colors in my environment and subjects and how they interact and tell a story visually.
I am inspired by how the body of my subject moves and what narrative I can portray by pushing my creativity to explore the story through the movements. Breaking the rules is what gives me life.
What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?
I shoot almost exclusively with my Nikon D750 and Nikkor 35mm 1.4 lens.
What other ways do you express your creativity?
Embroidery and cooking. If I ever find myself with a stretch of time and little to do, I would like to get back into teaching myself the guitar and piano.
How do you de-stress at the end of the day?
Martial Arts, reading, or watching a movie.
I have a black belt in Aikido and am currently a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. This is one of my greatest passions in life next to Photography.
What kind of music do you listen to while editing?
Depends on what I am editing but usually it's one of these on Pandora:
The Black Keys
Odesza
Agnes Obel
β¦..or dead silence. There is no in between.
What is your favorite book?
Fantasy almost exclusively and usually no less than 1,000 pages. Currently reading the latest Brandon Sanderson book in the Stormlight Archives. Top notch.
Name one movie that inspires you.
One? I would have to go with The Grand Pudapest Hotel then. A visual masterpiece.
How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?
If my creative slump strikes in my slow season then I take a step back and return with a thoughtfully planned out creative shoot that is just for me. If it's my busy season then I push through it and decide on one creative thing I want to try at my session and that usually gets my juices going again.
Self-doubt is my unwavering life long companion. We co-exist.
What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?
Many things. But as an artist, one of the hardest things for me still to this day is sharing my work.
I love the way my art makes me feel as I am creating it, but as soon as I decide to share it to the world all love is lost. I start viewing it through the eyes of strangers who do not understand it or me. I nitpick it until all of a sudden it's all just never good enough. I'm still working on it.
What is your favorite pizza topping?
Ham and black olives.
What is your most favorite kind of light and why?
It's a toss up between Harsh Light and Backlit Sun. Backlit glow is always a win, but when that harsh light hits right it's *chefs kiss*.
Who is one of your favorite photographers?
It's too stressful to pick just one. Here's who I am inspired by lately:
Domenico Falso
Ian Hippolyte
Rachel Green
Desiree Matsson
Laurken Kendall
Cvatik
What is your favorite course or lesson at Unraveled?
Anything by Anna Caitlin
