Here is Tanya, Unraveled…
WHAT INSPIRED YOUR ART?
My inspiration started with my kids, as it did for many of us. Eventually that turned into wanting to capture connection. Not just the connection between them or anybody else, but their connection to everything around them. Their pets, their surroundings, nature, friends. I wanted them to be able to look back on the images and see a little part of who they were growing up and what they loved.
WHAT DO YOU SHOOT WITH? CAMERA BODY AND FAVORITE LENS?
I have a nikon D610 body and I only shoot with my sigma 35 mm art lens, it never leaves my camera.
WHAT OTHER WAYS DO YOU EXPRESS YOUR CREATIVITY?
I never thought of myself as being creative before photography. It is by far my favourite art form. But when I'm shooting I do spend time with my daughter doing arts and crafts. We just finished making paper snowflakes for our tree and making personalized Christmas cards for our girlfriends. I always have to have some sort of project on the go. Between my husband and I there is always something being created in our home, (his projects usually involve the building part). My first love is photography, but my very close second is creating anything fun and beautiful with my kids.
HOW DO YOU DE-STRESS AT THE END OF THE DAY?
My husband and I enjoy couch time every night with a glass of red wine and a good tv series.
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO WHILE EDITING?
I have a go to playlist which is actually playing right now. its a collection of songs that have inspired me in some way, or just feel good songs that make me smile. Songs from when I was a teenager and newer. Its mellow and soft and familiar.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?
Well, I have never been an avid reader, its something I always struggled with. I have read books of course but I can't say I have a favourite book that stands out for me. I have always had a hard time staying connected while reading. I am always open to any suggestions on books that will keep me zoned in.
NAME ONE MOVIE THAT INSPIRES YOU.
The pursuit of happiness. I love this movie and I just watched it again recently. It has so many life lessons in it about hope, hard work, persistence, and to never give up. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry and most importantly it has a beautiful happy ending.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST DIFFICULT PART OF YOUR CREATIVE JOURNEY?
I spent a long time comparing my work to other photographers. I would doubt myself and constantly question wether I should share this image or that image. It got exhausting. I finally snapped out of it after realizing I was doing it all for the wrong reasons. I woke up one day and decided I was just going to go for it and shoot what I want and share what I love. That was my hardest battle but i am so happy pushed through it.
WHO IS ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOGRAPHERS?
Wow, this is a difficult one because I am inspired by so many amazing artists. Lately I am drawn to Lindsay Saunders work. I just love the timeless feel to all her images and the creative lighting she masters every darn time. I just love her work!
