We are so honored to celebrate Kassy Desmond as this week’s Unraveled Artist of the Year.
Kassy is a Massachusetts-based photographer and mother whose work is rooted in something deeper than just documentation — it’s about preservation. The kind that quietly holds onto the way a moment felt, not just how it looked.
And you can feel that in this image instantly. In this photo, there is a tenderness that doesn’t try too hard. No forced connection. No performance. Just closeness. The kind that exists in the in-between — when a child leans in without thinking, and a mother holds on just a second longer than necessary.
What Kassy does so well is honor the quiet weight of these moments. The ones that don’t ask for attention, but deserve to be remembered anyway. Through softness, light, and an almost painterly use of color, Kasey transforms something simple into something lasting.
