Here is Brittany, Unraveled…

What inspired your art?

Movies, music...  Being alive. My whole entire life! Being able to see art around me, being able to hear art around me, to feel it all. My art is inspired by always having my eyes and heart wide open to the world.

What do you shoot with? Camera body and favorite lens?

Canon 6D Mkii -- Canon EF 35mm 2.0 lens

What other ways do you express your creativity?

I am a cinematographer at heart, i’m always experimenting with it. Trying to capture emotions of storytelling differently than anyone else, while always trying to invoke some kind of greater power. Like an outer body experience.

How do you de-stress at the end of the day?

Wine by the gallon, and flossing until my gums bleed. Bad habits. All the bad habits. I love to just sit still and think about all the things i should be doing. mwhahahaha

What kind of music do you listen to while editing?

I mostly edit in silence or have quiet weird piano music playing. I hate feeling over stimulated. my brain turns into mush.

What is your favorite book?

I don’t read much, mostly audio books and books with pictures.. So Right now it is 500 self portraits.

Favorite classics that have had a hand in shaping who i am creatively would be:

Alchemist

Big Magic

David & Goliath

Steal like an Artist

Name one movie that inspires you.

I have so many movies that inspire me.

Moonlight and Sicario ---- For their Bold moods and compositional power,

any movie with a good sex scene! Specifically the opening scene of WE OWN THE NIGHT with Eva Mendes and all the sex scenes in the movie BELLY

How do you handle self-doubt or creative slumps?

Taking a big risk always pulls me out of creative slumps and helps with my self doubt. For example, when I shot self portraits in a closed down Macy's, I was scared shitless-- but I knew I needed some creative energy to start my week. I was aching for it. Even if I would have gotten kicked out, it was worth it. It’s always worth it. Creative risks are worth everything and generating ideas somewhere where you've never created is worth even more. That act in itself, inspired me. When we take some kind of risk in our lives, whatever the outcome may be, we end up being thankful we did it, almost always. So those are the type of moves i make.

What has been the most difficult part of your creative journey?

Underestimating my own potential or feeding into the act of comparison. It tries to manipulate all the spaces in my head with noise, it's like a big fat tumor wanting to explode. I know that’s normal, with everyone-- I embrace the feeling that it brings and i accept it and just remind myself whatever it is i can do, no one is able to do it the way i do it, for a reason.

Who is one of your favorite photographers?

So many for so many different reasons…

I Really fucking love Elizaveta Porodina. For her radical beauty project. Please, look it up! Her work is exceptional!  She bends reality with colour-burst surrealism and black-and-white romanticism. Moves me so Hard!

Ben Sasso- He’s just dope AF

Celia D. Luna- Colorful & Creative

Rineke Dihkstra -Her self portraits kill me!
