BLOOMS! It’s hard to mention Spring without thinking of flowers. When it comes to capturing outdoor blooms in spring photography, focus on the delicate beauty and vibrant colors. Experiment with different angles and depths of field to showcase the intricate details of each bloom. Capturing bokeh with flowers can create a dreamy and ethereal look in your images. To achieve this effect, use a wide aperture (such as f/2.8 or lower) to create a shallow depth of field, which will result in a blurred background that enhances the focus on the flowers in the foreground. Remember to position your camera close to the flowers and ensure they are well-lit with ample backlight to make the bokeh effect more pronounced. And in true Unraveled style, we encourage you to be creative and don’t be afraid to think outside the box!

Framing a subject with florals can create a beautiful and visually appealing composition in photography. Blossoming trees can be a great backdrop in any Spring shoot. You can use the flowers to add a natural frame around your main subject, drawing the viewer's attention to the focal point of your image. Use the rule of thirds to create a more balanced and visually pleasing composition. The rule of thirds is a fundamental principle in photography that involves dividing your frame into thirds horizontally and vertically, creating a grid with nine equal parts. The idea is to place your main subject or points of interest along these gridlines or at their intersections, rather than in the center of the frame as it allows the viewer's eye to naturally move around the image.

Let’s talk Spring styling. Consider wearing pastel or neutral colors that compliment the bright green and bold, colorful floral backdrops of Spring . Put comfort at the top of the list and choose flowy and light layers. Additionally, incorporating accessories such as flower crowns, hats, or statement jewelry can enhance the overall look of your spring photography wardrobe. Experiment with different outfits and styles to find what suits your personal aesthetic and vision for your photoshoots. Experimenting with different textures can add a unique touch to your images and help create a more dynamic and engaging composition. Consider playing with light and shadows to emphasize the textures and create a visually compelling effect in your photographs. Keeping up with the kids! When capturing kids in the spring, it helps to focus on their natural playfulness and energy. Try to shoot outdoors in a park or garden where they can interact with the blooming flowers and vibrant colors of the season. Encourage them to run, jump, and play to capture candid and lively moments. Utilize natural light to enhance the brightness and warmth of springtime in your photos. Do you live at sporting events all Spring? Don’t be afraid to get creative with your “big camera” and don’t waste that magical light at those golden hour games. There is nothing better than capturing kids doing what they love! Check out Sports Photography for Kids with Cody Farrell in the academy for more.
