We acknowledge that we sound like a broken record at this point, but how the hell is it already the middle of September?
John Prine is playing through the house while I work today, and this time of year Summer’s End just lives permanently in my head. Midwest storytelling at its absolute finest.
“Summer’s end is around the bend just flying…”. Come on home. Come on home, no you don't have to be alone. Just come on home.” Oof. This song gets me in the feels very damn year.
So it only feels right to start this week’s Artist Feature with a little John Prine and a reminder that the seasons keep moving whether we’re ready for them or not.
And maybe this is our little come on home moment, too. If you’ve been hanging around the edges of Unraveled wondering if you should join us, come on home. If you were a member once upon a time and life got busy and you wandered away for a while, come on home. The door’s open. There’s good art being made here, good people to make it alongside, and always a seat for you.

Our NEWEST 2026 Artist of the Year is Paige Statz
We started this blog talking about a Midwest Legend, so here is another one for you. Paige Statz is an absolute gem of a human and an incredible artist. Watching her develop her voice and grow into her work has been nothing short of remarkable. We had the joy of finally meeting her at the Driftless Retreat, and to say she is as cool as her work is an understatement. All good vibes, all the time, and her art feels like such a reflection of who she is.
And THIS IMAGE is SO GOOD>. The chaos of family life happening all around them, kids flying in and out of the frame, nothing too perfect or contained and somehow, right in the middle of all of it, your eye still lands on mom. She feels like the calm center of this wonderfully wild little universe.
It’s playful and imperfect and full of life. Exactly the kind of photograph we’ll never get tired of looking at.
Congratulations, Paige, our newest Unraveled Artist of the Year. So damn deserved.
