We seriously cannot believe it’s already mid-August.
Some of you have already sent your kids back to school. Some of you are counting down the days until everyone is back on a schedule and you can finally find your coffee while it’s still hot. Some of you are keeping the summer chaos going a little longer, and some of you are homeschooling like absolute badasses.
Wherever you are in this season of life, we know one thing for sure: life does not exactly slow down so we can make art.
And yet, week after week, you keep showing up. You’re creating, experimenting, trying new things, taking risks, and putting your work out there for the rest of us to see. And honestly, that’s one of our favorite things about this community.
So, even in the middle of the back-to-school chaos, summer madness, busy work seasons, and all the other things life is throwing at you, we want to keep celebrating the artists who are making it happen anyway.
Now let’s celebrate this week’s featured Unraveled artists.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR — ANNISSA SCHMIDT
This week’s Artist of the Year is Annissa Schmidt of Fin & Oak Photography, based out of Temecula California.
Annissa has such a distinct way of photographing motherhood and family. Nothing feels overly posed or manufactured. There’s this quiet, raw, almost documentary quality to her work that makes you feel like you’re witnessing a real moment rather than looking at a posed family session.
Like all of Annissa’s work, we love this image. The way these three are wrapped around each other, the expression on mom’s face, the little girl looking off into the distance, the softness of the beach… it feels intimate and completely unforced.
There’s a point of view here. And Anissa just gets it.
Her work is warm. In the way she captures honest connection and the way she edits her art. It is soft and raw all at the same time. And that is HARD to do.
Annissa, we’re so excited to name you this week’s Artist of the Year. You’re doing some seriously beautiful work, and we can’t wait to see where you take it next.
