Unraveled Artist Feature | August 18th, 2026
We don’t have a lot to say this week.
We’re hanging by a thread, running the rat race until our kids go back to school. Trying to get all the things done that need to get done, while also trying to soak up these last little moments of summer with our kids.
So instead of coming up with some elaborate blog intro or inspirational quote, we’re just going to let the art speak for itself.
Because the artists of Unraveled are fucking killing it.
Here’s what they’ve been creating.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR — Melissa Engle Hess
Melissa Engle is a whimsical, color-loving photographer out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and she’s been part of Unraveled for a little over a year and a half. We also had the absolute pleasure of finally meeting her in person at the Driftless Retreat this past June.
Melissa has always had a style that is completely her own. Her work is playful, colorful, full of personality, and you can always tell when you’re looking at a Melissa Engle image. But THIS image feels like a whole other level.
It’s almost like she took everything she absorbed at Driftless—the way we were encouraged to see differently, play with composition, embrace movement, find the story happening inside the frame—and then went home and made it completely hers.
And we fucking love that.
Because look at this frame. The color is incredible. The composition is layered and unexpected. The kids are moving in every direction, Dad is casually trailing behind, and that little guy on the skateboard is giving us the perfect main character moment. There is so much happening, but nothing feels forced.
It feels like a family being a family. And it feels very, very Melissa.
We love watching artists take what they learn, throw it into their own creative soup, and come back with something that could only belong to them.
Melissa, this one is a whole new level for you. And we are HERE FOR IT.
