Unraveled Artist Feature | April 22nd, 2026

Playing it safe won’t change you as an artist. And it definitely won’t get you noticed.

What we’re sharing in this week’s Artist Features isn’t about perfection or polish or chasing what’s trending. It’s work that feels honest. A little unhinged in the best way. The kind of images that don’t ask for permission before they exist. These artist are not following, they are letting their gut guide them.

If you’ve been holding back, trying to make your work more likable, more marketable, more whatever… consider this your nudge to loosen your grip. Share the one that feels a little off. The one that doesn’t fit neatly into your grid. The one you almost didn’t post. That’s the work that actually moves you forward, not the kind that keeps you stuck playing it safe.

And if you’ve been watching from the sidelines, waiting until your work feels “good enough” to be part of something like this, you’ve got it backwards.

You don’t get better and then join. You join—and that’s what changes everything.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEWEST UNRAVELED ARTIST OF THE YEAR…

Melissa Barnes

Melissa Barnes has been a member of Unraveled Academy for the past 5 months, and it’s been so cool getting to know her through her art. When we see her work, we know it’s hers. In a cut-copy sea of curated neutrals and muted tones, her images are vibrant, dreamy, and intentional.

In a space where so much starts to blur together, her work holds its own. This image, especially, feels less like something made for a feed and more like the book cover of an iconic love story.

Congratulations Melissa for being nominated Unraveled Academy’s newest Artist if the Year and to ALL the featured Artists! We had SO MANY newer artists submitting this week!

Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep creating.
