Unraveled Artist Feature | May 27th, 2026

“The beautiful spring came; and when Nature resumes her loveliness, the human soul is apt to revive also.” —Harriet Ann Jacobs

Spring has a way of waking things up.

Not all at once, and not always in obvious ways. Sometimes it arrives quietly. Softer light slipping through the windows. Longer evenings. Bare feet replacing boots. The first moment you realize you’ve started noticing things again. Maybe that’s why so many artists feel pulled toward creating this time of year. Seasonal change has always felt deeply tied to art in some way. Winter asks us to go inward, to rest, to sit in stillness a little longer. Spring, though, asks something different of us. It asks us to emerge. To pay attention. To follow color again. Texture. Movement. Tiny moments that suddenly feel worth holding onto.

As we looked through this week’s submissions for our Artist Feature, we couldn’t help but notice how much of that spring energy is showing up in the work our members are creating right now. You can feel it in blooming landscapes, softer tones, motherhood, movement, warmth, and connection. But even beyond the obvious signs of spring, there’s something unfolding in the work itself. A sense of curiosity returning. Playfulness. A willingness to experiment. A quiet remembering of what it feels like to make art simply because something inside of you wants to.

Maybe that’s one of the gifts of seasonal change as an artist. A reminder that inspiration comes back. That growth is often happening beneath the surface long before we can see it. That we are allowed to evolve with the seasons too. And this week, our community is reminding us just how beautiful that unfolding can be. 🖤

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NEWEST UNRAVELED ARTIST OF THE YEAR…

Cindy Leroy

There’s something quietly cinematic about this image by Cindy Leroy. Not in an overly styled way, but in the kind of way that feels accidental and intentional all at once.

The sun lands exactly where it needs to, tucked between mother and child like something they’re protecting together. Instead of overpowering the frame, the backlight melts into it, creating softness without losing shape. The grain gives the image texture, almost like dust caught in evening light, making it feel worn-in rather than pristine. Real instead of polished.

And then there are the details doing so much of the emotional work: the tiny embroidered boots dangling against denim, the child pulling her mama close, the way mom leans in completely without hesitation. It feels effortless, but deeply considered. It is the kind of photograph every mama dreams of having — one that somehow manages to hold both closeness and time still.

What makes Cindy’s work stand out is restraint. Nothing here feels forced. She trusts the moment enough not to overthink it. The styling is thoughtful, but the emotion never gets lost inside of it. The image still feels honest. Human. Like something lived, not manufactured.

Keep learning. Keep growing. Keep creating.
